ACMPT Programme

The goal of ACPMT’s Certified Professional Manager and Technologists (CPMT) program is to provide on-the-job managers with the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications and improve their skills to become more effective managers.

The Certified Professional Manager and Technologists Program aims to provide in-service managers detailed theoretical management knowledge and practical skills. Teaching methods are seminars, case studies, group work, and exercises. This course is specially designed by ACPM instructors. Certified Professional Manager Program: 4 to 6 months.

The names of all participants who successfully complete the programme will be entered and maintained in ACPMT database as “Certified Professional Managers and Technologists (CPMT)”. Successful candidates will have the right to be ACPMT Certified Professional Manager and the right to the designatory letters CPMT. This Practicing License confirms that they have attained the highest standard of knowledge, capability, in their area of expertise and specialization.

Admission to ACPM’s Certified Professional Managers Programme is given totally on merit and no quota system is followed. The candidate must possess:

• Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university or equivalent qualification.

If a candidate has passed only a diploma qualification but has more than 5 years experience, his/her case may be considered for admission by ACPM.

Applications may be completed online or downloaded in Adobe Acrobat™ format. All applications must be submitted with a nonrefundable application fee. Applications will not be processed without payment. Applicants are notified by letter or email of their eligibility to participate in the CPM Program. Applicants are required to submit the following documents upon acceptance into the CPM programme;

• Copies of bachelor’s degree and transcript.
• Four copies of a recent passport size photograph.
• Reference letters by employers.

The performance of students is evaluated through continuous observation of the student’s interest in the course, the extent to which he/she participates in discussions and the case studies and exercises.

A final examination of three hours duration will be given to the students at the end of the semester for each subject. The total marks for passing the course will be 60 out of a total of 100 marks.

Students, who do not meet attendance or any other eligibility criteria, will not be allowed to appear in the final examination.

In the rating of students, three passing grades, A, B, and C and one failing grade are used. In terms of their numerical equivalents, the letter grades denote the following:
A: 87-100
B: 72-86
C: 60-71
F: Below 60
No “make up” examination is allowed in any course under any circumstances.

All participants are required to take the following five foundation courses. Exemption from these courses is possible if student can provide proof of these courses or equivalent courses taken previously from other recognized Institutions;

  1. FD101 : SELF MANAGEMENT
    This course is concerned with personal development and skills and enables students to build on existing skills to enhance current performance and develop new skills for future personal and career development

    The emphasis is on the needs of the individual but within the context of how the development of self-management corresponds with effective team management is meeting objectives.

    Learning Outcomes
    • Carry out a personal skills audit and self appraisal.
    • Prepare and agree a personal development plan with the line manager.
    • Review and monitor progress in achieving learning objectives and personal targets.
    • Evaluate progress and achievement of personal development and learning targets and re-set objectives.

  2. FD102 : MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES
    This course develops the skills and knowledge that are needed to manage people within an organisation. It recognises that the management of people operates within the internal framework of organisational values, culture and practices, and that externally, it should meet the requirements of current legislation and ensure ethical and environmentally friendly behaviour.

    Learning Outcomes
    • Select personnel against specified requirements
    • Analyse the development needs of teams and individuals
    • Allocate work to teams and individuals, agreeing objectives and plans.
    • Evaluate performance of teams and individuals.
    • Contribute to the implementation of disciplinary and grievance procedures.

  3. FD103 : MANAGEMENT OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES
    This course introduces you to the management of finance within a business. You will be able to identify sources of finance and use and interpret financial information for decision-making purposes. You will also learn the basic techniques to make decisions relating to costing, budgeting, pricing and investments.

    • Select appropriate sources of finance for a business project.
    • Assess the implications of different sources of finance.
    • Assess the cost of different types of finance for a business.
    • Explain the importance of the flow of financial resources.
    • Explain the importance and use of financial information for decision-making purposes.
    • Define the different types of assets and liabilities of a business.

  4. FD104 : MANAGEMENT OF PLANNING, DECISIONS MAKING AND STRATEGY
    The aim of this course is to focus on the effective and efficient planning and management of work activities. It provides you with the knowledge and skills to design, implement and change operational systems, to improve their effectiveness and efficiency.

    • Explain how functions inter-relate in the organisational structure.
    • Plan work activities to meet the objectives of the organisation and the needs of customers.
    • Manage work activities to achieve organisational objectives.
    • Design and monitor appropriate systems to ensure quality of products and services.
    • Manage health and safety in the workplace.
    • Make improvements to the organisation’s systems and activities.

  5. FD105 : MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION RESOURCES
    This course enables students to recognise the need for managers to be able to gather, analyse, record, store and disseminate information as part of the management function. The focus of the unit is not on information systems but on the processes. The unit develops the skills and techniques involved in managing information, and students will learn to manage information to inform decision-making.

    Learning Outcomes
    • Establish the type of information required to manage day-to-day and medium-term operations.
    • Use sources of information to inform and aid decision-making.
    • Gather information from different sources to meet information needs.
    • Analyse information to inform decision-making.
    • Record and store information to aid understanding and access.
    • Use dissemination channels to distribute information throughout the organisation.

Participants will have the option to chose form the following area of specializations;

Participant would be required to submit a project report of around 4000 to 5000 words on their chosen areas of specialization.
